Armani residence, Milan 1989 by Peter Marino - "modernity without futurism"

Armani's broad instructions to create a setting that  "'suggested a period in the past as a point of reference.'"  That period was Paris in the '30s.

"'...modernity without futurism.'"  That's how Giorgio Armani described the aesthetic he strived for in the design of his apartment.

"Tall, sleek ebonized doors are French polished    In the background, the bronze leopard, one of a pair, is from the 30s, attributed to the famous Atelier Primavera.  The big cats are crouching on a low goatskin table by Jean Michel Frank.  In the foreground the sofa, surrounded by a folding screen, is pure Frank-style."

Hotel Fasano São Paulo

Rua Vittorio Fasano, 88, Sao Paulo, 01414-020 Brazil 866-539-0036

Hotel Fasano São Paulo > overview:
"The most elegant hotel in São Paulo has been a long-nurtured dream of the Fasano family, who for over a century devotes itself to providing the best in Italian cuisine with outstanding service.  Ideally located between the business districts of Avenida Paulista and Faria Lima, in the heart of the exclusive Jardins neighborhood, the hotel is steps away from São Paulo’s prime shopping area.  With personalized service, zealous yet un-invasive, the Fasano São Paulo caters to both business and leisure travelers.  Guests can enjoy the inviting accommodations and relax by the hotel’s exquisite spa and rooftop swimming pool. The hotel is located between the business centers of Paulista and Faria Lima Avenues neighbouring renowned brands."

"Visitor review: The best in São Paulo
With a reputation as São Paulo's best hotel, expectations of the Fasano Hotel run high, and my stay at this discreet hotel in Jardins was nothing short of perfect. The hotel building is a small stylish tower on one of the smallest streets in Jardins, ensuring peace and calm. Around the corner, though, are the city's most expensive boutiques of luxury fashion and objects. The hotel's rooms are elegant and very spacious, but feel more like an elegant studio apartment than a hotel room. Inaugurated in 2003, the hotel is owned by the Fasano family, who have been running the best Italian restaurants in Brazil for a century and who also opened the sister hotel in Rio de Janeiro. The street on which the hotel is located, rua Vittoria Fasano, was named after the family's ancestor, and the choice of location for the hotel was probably no coincidence. The hotel's restaurant, Fasano, is also considered the city's best Italian restaurant. Naturally, prices match the reputation. You decide if it's worth it."
